Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Beginner Guide
Revelations is built for players who already understand the base game but want a fresh campaign, a new movement weapon, and harder combat routes. Start by treating the first run as a Chain Spear learning path, not just another shooter level pack. The expansion sends the Slayer into a frozen-over purgatory and opens into six large new levels with secrets, collectibles, special encounters, and endgame challenges.
Install the right version
Use the standalone Revelations DLC, Premium Upgrade, Premium Edition, or Collector's Bundle. The add-on requires DOOM: The Dark Ages, so install the base game first.
Finish or understand the base campaign first
Revelations follows the Slayer after he is wounded and trapped in a merciless purgatory. Completing the base campaign first makes the story setup, combat flow, and upgrade logic easier to understand.
Keep Revelations Tutorials turned on
Update 4 adds Revelations-specific tutorials, and Bethesda recommends leaving them on for the first playthrough. They help explain Chain Spear movement, dodging, and new mechanics.
Learn the Purgatory hub early
Purgatory acts as a major hub for the DLC route. Use it to understand new traversal paths, enemy pressure, and how the Chain Spear changes movement between arenas.
Use the Chain Spear as both weapon and movement tool
The Chain Spear can hit enemies at range, pull the Slayer forward, pierce defenses, parry attacks, trigger ground slams, and redirect movement in mid-air.
Search side paths before leaving each level
The six new levels include secret passages, collectibles, and special encounters. Check the map often and return later for cleanup when more routes open.
Push into Master Arenas after the campaign
After finishing the campaign, Master Arenas unlock more endgame challenges and add Revelations maps, demons, upgraded weapons, and new presets to Ripatorium 3.0.
Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Walkthrough
Use this route to move through the DLC campaign without losing track of the main objective. The focus is on campaign progress first, then secrets, Master Arenas, and Ripatorium cleanup after the story. Revelations is a six-level campaign built around the Purgatory hub, deeper puzzles, new demons, and the Chain Spear.
1.Start the Revelations campaign
Launch the DLC after installing it through the standalone add-on, Premium Upgrade, Premium Edition, or Collector's Bundle. For the smoothest route, clear the base campaign first and begin Revelations from the new campaign entry.
2.Chapter 1: Proving Grounds
Obtain the Oracle, clear the first major enemy waves, move toward the council chamber, solve shield-based door mechanisms, collect the Blue Skull, and defeat the Agaddon Brute Champion before the route sends the Slayer into Purgatory.
3.Chapter 2: Purgatory
Follow the Chain Spear tutorial path, clear the broad open combat area, activate the central machinery, follow the new marker, and use the lever that opens the path through the ice toward Hell's Core.
4.Chapter 3: Hell's Core
Use the Chain Spear to cross platforms, place the Hell Battery to unlock the door, survive locked-room fights with Pinky Riders and Buzzsaw enemies, then handle the Archvile before using blue portals to climb higher.
5.Continue through the six-level campaign
Follow objective markers from each major arena into the next zone. Prioritize main route progress first, then mark blocked doors, hidden paths, and collectible routes for cleanup after more of the campaign opens.
6.Return for secrets and collectibles
After major progress points, revisit unexplored areas, secret passages, collectible spots, and special encounters. Revelations is designed with post-campaign cleanup routes.
7.Clear Master Arenas and Ripatorium 3.0 content
After campaign completion, use Master Arenas for harder endgame fights. Completing Revelations Master Arenas unlocks new Ripatorium 3.0 maps, demons, fully upgraded weapons, Chain Spear loadout content, and curated encounter presets.
Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Chain Spear Guide
The Chain Spear is the main new combat and traversal tool in Revelations. It lets the Slayer attack at range, pull into enemies, parry, slam, and reshape mid-air movement. Revelations changes the rhythm of DOOM: The Dark Ages by giving players a weapon that is also a movement tool, rewarding fast decisions and aggressive arena control.
Ranged spear throw
Throw the Chain Spear to strike enemies from range before committing to close combat.
Use case: Start fights safely, tag priority targets, and create an opening before moving in.
High-speed pull
The spear can reel the Slayer forward at high speed after connecting.
Use case: Close gaps, reposition quickly, and turn platforming routes into attack routes.
Precision throw
A precise Chain Spear throw can pierce defenses and punish protected enemies.
Use case: Break defensive pressure and force dangerous enemies into a vulnerable state.
Timed parry
Well-timed Chain Spear parries can repel attacks and keep the Slayer on offense.
Use case: Counter incoming pressure while staying close enough to keep damaging enemies.
Ground slam
The Chain Spear can help trigger a heavy ground slam that shatters the area below.
Use case: Control clustered enemies and punish groups after aerial movement.
Mid-air trajectory control
The spear can manipulate the Slayer's movement in the air, letting him arc around targets and hazards.
Use case: Cross gaps, dodge threats, and attack from unexpected angles.
Perfect Dodge Window
Update 4 adds a Revelations difficulty setting that adjusts how long the Perfect Dodge window stays active while dashing with the Chain Spear.
Use case: Tune the Chain Spear dodge feel for comfort, especially on a first playthrough.
Spear Empowerment display
The HUD can show the Spear empowerment meter under the reticle, and Chain Spear input styles can be customized.
Use case: Keep the meter visible while learning the weapon, then adjust controls once the movement becomes natural.
Ripatorium 3.0 loadout
After completing Revelations Master Arenas, players can use a fully upgraded Revelations loadout with the Spear and new Suit Perks in Ripatorium 3.0.
Use case: Practice Chain Spear combat in custom arena encounters after the campaign.
Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC New Demons and Bosses
Revelations adds fresh demon types, returning high-pressure casters, Champion variants, and Master Arena threats built around the Chain Spear combat loop. Use this section as a quick enemy-read guide before entering Revelations: prioritize casters, fast chargers, shielded enemies, and Champion targets first, then use the Chain Spear and Shield Saw to control space before the arena fills up.
Warlock
New demonThreat: Uses infernal sorcery and pressure tools that punish passive play.
Counter: Close distance with Chain Spear, interrupt casting windows, and avoid letting it control the center of the arena.
Buzzsaw
New demonThreat: Fast jousting-style demon-machine enemy that attacks at speed.
Counter: Aim for the wheel, sidestep its charge path, then punish during recovery.
Archvile
Returning iconic demonThreat: Casts fire, summons shadow versions of minions, and can snowball fights if left alive.
Counter: Keep pressure on it, use Chain Spear to close gaps, and delete summoned threats quickly.
Cosmic Elemental
Returning-style heavy flyerThreat: A hive-like flying threat inspired by Pain Elemental-style pressure.
Counter: Clear spawned threats first if the arena gets crowded, then burst it down with high-damage ranged weapons.
Acolyte
DLC encounter enemyThreat: Creates multiple copies and becomes harder to damage while protected.
Counter: Destroy the illusions quickly, then focus the real Acolyte once its shield drops.
Vagary
Major demon encounterThreat: Uses slow but dangerous projectiles while minions add pressure.
Counter: Keep distance, watch the projectile lanes, and clear nearby fodder before committing damage.
Agaddon Brute Champion
Champion boss encounterThreat: Requires sustained damage to build the stun window, while backup enemies pressure the arena.
Counter: Use a fast-firing weapon to fill the purple stun bar, then execute during the opening.
Leaders and Champions
Ripatorium and Master Arena threatsThreat: Revelations demons can appear as Leaders and Champions after Master Arena unlocks.
Counter: Build encounters around one major threat at a time, then add fodder only when your loadout can sustain health and ammo.
Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Secrets and Collectibles
Revelations has six large campaign levels with secret passages, collectibles, special encounters, deeper puzzles, and post-story cleanup. This section helps completion-focused players know what to check before moving on: finish the story, unlock post-campaign areas, clear Master Arenas, then return for missing collectibles and hidden encounters.
Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Ripatorium 3.0 Passcodes
Ripatorium 3.0 expands custom arena sharing with shorter passcodes, personal presets, new spawn options, and Revelations content after Master Arenas. Ripatorium passcodes are generated from player-made encounters rather than fixed redeem codes: build an encounter, tune the demon waves and pickups, then share the generated passcode with other players.
Encounter Sharing
Shorter average passcodes for base-game encounter sharing
Create a Ripatorium encounter, generate the share passcode, and send it to another player so they can load the setup.
Save and Load Presets
Save custom encounter builds for repeat use
Tune your arena, demon mix, pickups, ammo, and spawn rules, then save it as a personal preset.
Continuous Spawn Mode
Respawn waves during rounds instead of fully clearing old enemies first
Enable continuous spawn mode when building longer pressure-based encounters.
Health and Ammo Rules
No pickups, single-use pickups, or pickups that respawn on a 5-minute timer
Use stricter pickup rules for challenge runs or respawning pickups for endurance-style fights.
Berserk Rules
No Berserk, one-time Berserk, 5-minute respawn Berserk, or unlimited Berserk
Set the Berserk slider based on whether the encounter is built for survival, spectacle, or melee-heavy play.
BFC Ammo Slider
Configure BFC ammo from 0 to 3
Use 0 for strict fights, 1 for emergency burst damage, or 2-3 for high-chaos custom arenas.
New Arena
Hell's Core arena for Ripatorium 3.0
Complete Revelations Master Arenas to unlock Revelations Ripatorium content.
New Arena
Osseus arena for Ripatorium 3.0
Use it after Master Arena completion with Revelations demons and fully upgraded DLC loadout.
New Arena
Classic arena for Ripatorium 3.0
Pair it with Revelations demons, Leaders, Champions, Spear upgrades, and curated id Software presets.
