Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Beginner Guide
Revelations is built for players who already understand the base game but want a fresh campaign, a new movement weapon, and harder combat routes. Start by treating the first run as a Chain Spear learning path, not just another shooter level pack. The expansion sends the Slayer into a frozen-over purgatory and opens into six large new levels with secrets, collectibles, special encounters, and endgame challenges.

Use the standalone Revelations DLC, Premium Upgrade, Premium Edition, or Collector's Bundle. The add-on requires DOOM: The Dark Ages, so install the base game first.

Revelations follows the Slayer after he is wounded and trapped in a merciless purgatory. Completing the base campaign first makes the story setup, combat flow, and upgrade logic easier to understand.

Update 4 adds Revelations-specific tutorials, and Bethesda recommends leaving them on for the first playthrough. They help explain Chain Spear movement, dodging, and new mechanics.

Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Walkthrough
Use this route to move through the DLC campaign without losing track of the main objective. The focus is on campaign progress first, then secrets, Master Arenas, and Ripatorium cleanup after the story. Revelations is a six-level campaign built around the Purgatory hub, deeper puzzles, new demons, and the Chain Spear.
1.Start the Revelations campaign
Launch the DLC after installing it through the standalone add-on, Premium Upgrade, Premium Edition, or Collector's Bundle. For the smoothest route, clear the base campaign first and begin Revelations from the new campaign entry.
2.Chapter 1: Proving Grounds
Obtain the Oracle, clear the first major enemy waves, move toward the council chamber, solve shield-based door mechanisms, collect the Blue Skull, and defeat the Agaddon Brute Champion before the route sends the Slayer into Purgatory.
3.Chapter 2: Purgatory
Follow the Chain Spear tutorial path, clear the broad open combat area, activate the central machinery, follow the new marker, and use the lever that opens the path through the ice toward Hell's Core.
4.Chapter 3: Hell's Core
Use the Chain Spear to cross platforms, place the Hell Battery to unlock the door, survive locked-room fights with Pinky Riders and Buzzsaw enemies, then handle the Archvile before using blue portals to climb higher.
5.Continue through the six-level campaign
Follow objective markers from each major arena into the next zone. Prioritize main route progress first, then mark blocked doors, hidden paths, and collectible routes for cleanup after more of the campaign opens.
6.Return for secrets and collectibles
After major progress points, revisit unexplored areas, secret passages, collectible spots, and special encounters. Revelations is designed with post-campaign cleanup routes.
7.Clear Master Arenas and Ripatorium 3.0 content
After campaign completion, use Master Arenas for harder endgame fights. Completing Revelations Master Arenas unlocks new Ripatorium 3.0 maps, demons, fully upgraded weapons, Chain Spear loadout content, and curated encounter presets.
New Weapon
Doom The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Chain Spear Guide
The Chain Spear is the main new combat and traversal tool in Revelations. It lets the Slayer attack at range, pull into enemies, parry, slam, and reshape mid-air movement. Revelations changes the rhythm of DOOM: The Dark Ages by giving players a weapon that is also a movement tool, rewarding fast decisions and aggressive arena control.
Ranged spear throw
Throw the Chain Spear to strike enemies from range before committing to close combat.
Use case: Start fights safely, tag priority targets, and create an opening before moving in.
High-speed pull
The spear can reel the Slayer forward at high speed after connecting.
Use case: Close gaps, reposition quickly, and turn platforming routes into attack routes.
Precision throw
